Workforce Development
America’s workforce has long been the primary engine of the U.S. economy. Historically, our resilient workforce has consistently risen to meet the challenges of industrial and global shifts. Hard work has defined the identities of Americans for generations, and for many, a “good job” has been the first step toward generational growth in affluence, health and prosperity.
Today, however, our country finds itself in a perfect storm of economic and social disruption with massive implications on what the future of work looks like. While the rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence is a significant factor in this sea change, it is not the only one. We are witnessing a convergence of forces: an aging workforce nearing retirement, a widening skills gap in emerging industries, a growing concern of the loss of ‘soft skills’ and a fundamental shift in how and where people work. This confluence of factors creates an urgent need for a new level of resiliency.
The Business for Good Foundation focuses on creating workforce development programs designed to support organizations, initiatives, and individuals who are improving communities in the Capital Region and beyond.
GROW: Generating Resilient Opportunities for America’s Workforce
The Business for Good Foundation’s GROW program is a unique initiative dedicated to building and expanding a robust and resilient workforce - creating jobs and opportunities for all.
With support from our partners, GROW will become a national job creation model in New York’s Capital Region by focusing on four straightforward goals:
-
Raising the Age of Support: Expanding programs to the 24 to 30-plus demographic to fund vital early-career pivots and retraining.
-
Adding More Teachers & Trainers: Closing the wage gap between the field and the classroom to recruit top industry experts to train the next generation.
-
Adapting to the New AI Economy: Funding specialized training to equip workers with hands-on, resilient skills that automation cannot replace.
-
Promoting the Capital Region: Partnering with leadership to establish and champion our local workforce as a primary national competitive advantage.
